In this part, we start the game and arrive on Koholint Island. We wake up in Mabe Village and find out we were rescued by Marin and Tarin. After speaking with Tarin, we receive our Shield and find out there may be more of our gear on the Beach. Heading to the Beach, we use our Shield to push the sea urchins out of the way and find our Sword. With our Sword in hand, we return to the village and jump into the well to get our first Piece of Heart. We next enter the Mysterious Woods and meet a raccoon that blocks our way with fog (If you walk into the fog, you will lose your way and appear in a random area of the woods. I show this for reference, then back out and reenter the woods to show what to do next). Heading through a nearby log tunnel, we find a Toadstool. We then backtrack through the same tunnel and exit the woods to the northeast to find the Witch's Hut. Giving her the Toadstool, we receive the Magic Powder. We then return to the raccoon in the woods and use the Magic Powder on it to reveal it to be Tarin and clear the fog as well. Beyond the Fog we get the Tail Key before returning to the village. Once back in the village, we head to the Fishing Pond and catch a small red fish for our second Piece of Heart. We then catch a small green fish to get our Middleweight Lure, and since it was the first time we've caught a bigger fish, we also get our 3rd Piece of Heart. Lastly, after moving other fish out of the way, or slowly dragging it along the sea bed, we obtain the Fairy Bottle. Moving on we find our first Secret Seashell in the grass above the Crane Game Shop. We then enter said shop and play to win a Yoshi Doll, and our 4th Piece of Heart. Upon leaving and reentering, we also obtain the CiaoCiao Figure and our 2nd Secret Seashell. We head north and enter the house here to trade the Yoshi Doll with the woman and receive the Ribbon. We then head over to Madame Bow Wow's house and enter the side room to give Ciao Ciao the Ribbon in exchange for Dog Food. We then place the CiaoCiao Figure in Madame Bow Wow's house and head south. We find Sale's Shack and trade him the Dog Food for some Bananas, then head over and unlock the Tail Cave.

- Notes -

- Unlike previous games, our Sword and Shield no longer count as equipable items. Instead they have their own mapped buttons. The B button is for the Sword only, and the R/ZR buttons are both for the Shield only.

- The Magic Powder is primarily used to light torches in order to solve puzzles, it is also used in the main story to cure Tarin of his raccoon problem. On a side note, it can be used on enemies to light them on fire, or even change their appearance. If you ever run out of Magic Powder, you can give another Toadstool to the Witch for more, or buy it directly from the Witch.

- The Yoshi Doll is the beginning of a Trade Sequence. We will be trading various items in order to receive one final one that will aid us later on.

- The Crane Game can be a little tricky to get the hang of at first. You need to press and hold the X button to move the crane upwards, and let it go when it is aligned with the item you want. Then press and hold the A button to move the crane sideways so that it is directly above the item you want, then it's all luck that it sits still inside the crane on it's way to the exit. After obtaining the Piece of Heart and Yoshi Doll, you can leave and reenter the building to try for the Secret Seashell and the CiaoCiao Figure. The Crane Game updates it's prizes apparently after each dungeon is cleared.
